The Silent Tenant project is an innovative initiative developed at Platform Housing Group (PHG). This groundbreaking project addresses a critical gap in the housing sector by leveraging AI to create a safer, more supportive environment for tenants, ensuring no one is left unnoticed.
At the heart of the Silent Tenant project lies a powerful purpose: to identify and assist “silent tenants” who may be at risk due to a lack of communication or engagement. By applying advanced machine learning techniques such as k-means clustering and ensemble methods, the system efficiently analyses tenant data to target resources where they are most needed. This ensures timely interventions, such as health and wellbeing checks, for tenants who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
The product was developed under the tech leadership of PHG’s Lead Data Scientist, Daulet Yermanov. According to Yermanov, AI’s ability to process and interpret large datasets, when combined with human expertise, enables housing providers to proactively identify at-risk tenants and implement impactful support strategies. The project exemplifies how AI can drive not only operational efficiency but also address critical human challenges, making a profound social impact.
The project’s success has been recognised across the industry, earning a gold award in the innovation category at the Housing Technology 2024 Awards.
